I love reading. I want my students to love reading.
Therefore, I take much pride in my classroom library. I spend a lot of my personal money making sure my classroom library is stacked with new books and high-interest books for all of my students. With new books coming in monthly, students have many books to choose from. However, along with that power comes a few cautions, and some rules:

If you'd like to help stock my classroom library, please check out my Amazon classroom wishlist or speak with me about what books I would like in my room. I'll happily make sure the students know where the books come from! Questions? Please contact me! I'm happy to help!
Therefore, I take much pride in my classroom library. I spend a lot of my personal money making sure my classroom library is stacked with new books and high-interest books for all of my students. With new books coming in monthly, students have many books to choose from. However, along with that power comes a few cautions, and some rules:
Cautions:
- The books in my classroom library are for pleasure reading. I have books on many different reading and maturity levels due to the individuality of each of my students. Students are not forced to read any of the books. They are more than welcome to bring books from home or from the libraries.
- I have not read each and every book in my classroom library. I purchase books based on reviews, recommendations, and my own personal reading of the young adult genre.
- Some books may have content students and/or their parents are not comfortable with. Each family is different. That is fine! If a student picks up a book and realizes it's not what they were expecting or it's not something they feel comfortable reading, they're more than welcome to return it and get something else. I'm happy to help them find something else.
- I encourage parents to read books along with their students as much as they can. Many discussions can be started through books that might else be missed. Talk to your child about what they're reading--if you want a copy to read, ask me. I sometimes have more than one copy or I can point you in the right directions.
- When in doubt, please feel free to contact me. I'm happy to discuss what your child is reading or how to get them interested in reading!
Rules:
- All books checked out must be returned in good condition. If a dog eats a book or a student reads it in the shower because they're so engrossed, please let me know. I'll let you know where you can get a replacement copy for the classroom library. If you are not willing to replace lost books, please check your books out from another library.
- Students must deal with subject matter maturely. If parents are concerned about content, or if I find a book to be more of a distraction than an entertaining read or a platform for discussion, I reserve the right to ask for the book back. If students need to change books, they are still required to find another suitable book to use for their book reports.
- All hardback books will be checked out without their paper covers. We're not supposed to judge books by their covers, but we all do. Therefore, I keep the covers so that other students can see how shiny they are, too!
- Please do not dog ear my pages, highlight my pages, or otherwise do things to mess up my pages. I have bookmarks. They are easy to make. Please find one.
- If a friend/sibling/parent/grandparent/dog/backyard chicken, etc., would like to read the book as well, check with me. Many books have waiting lists as we go throughout the year and I want to make sure my students get top priority. If no one else is in line for the book, I am happy to loan them out to family, provided they follow my classroom library rules as well. And remember: the student who checks the book out is the student responsible for the book.
